Paithani is a saree made of silk and zari. It is a plain weave. Paithani is characterized by borders of an oblique square design, and a pallu with a peacock design. The designs commonly found on pallus include parrots, panja, barwa, peacock etc.  Paithani pure silk sarees even today are traditionally a part of the trousseau of every Maharashtrian bride.
